Erica routinely appears at numerous schools throughout the school year. She speaks on both being an author and writing/literacy, as well as offering workshops with hands-on writing exercises from fourth grade through post-graduate.
A small sample of past school appearances include Spring Run Elementary, Winterpock Elementary, Hening Elementary, Marguerite Christian Elementary, Hungary Creek Middle School, and Greenfield Elementary Schools (all in Virginia). She has been the Writer-in-Residence at Clover Hill High School, and has appeared at Writer Fest at Appomattox Regional Governor's School (ARGS). She has worked in-depth with students at Henrico High School, and appeared at Victoria Middle School in Victoria, Texas.
She also offers speaking appearances on The Ten Things I Would Tell My Middle-School Self, and assorted tales of motherhood.
Erica has led workshops for the Society of Children's Book Writers and Illustrators at their spring conference in New England, teaching on both editing, and on using the power of personal story to write more emotionally authentic work for children.
She has offered workshops on expanding social media footprint for authors, as well as her Power of Story for memoir writers. She also offers an in-depth half-day editing workshop for writers of all levels.
The Power of Story, which she has offered many times, including twice at the Joan Oates Institute, working with educators, is an impactful half-day workshop for writers--or nonwriters. The workshop has been used as a team-building exercise in bringing people and co-workers together utilizing storytelling to develop compassion and cooperation. It has been called "life-changing" by past participants.
